MSC Challenge 2024 – Winners

Msc 2024 Line Up

MSC Challenge was started back in 2006 in Japan by Kazuhiko Iwata who also founded Formula Drift Japan series. MSC Challenge focuses on the “Fun Comp” for drifters with all skill levels, very soon it has become very popular among the drifters in Japan. Through MSC challenge, drivers progress their skills in a fun and fairly level playfield.

MSC Challenge is a feeder series to the top tier competition Formula Drift Japan, where top drivers will be awarded with Formula Drift Japan driver licences.

This year Techspan Motorsport again got behind this exciting Drifting Competition sponsoring prizes for the winner of Round 4 AND the overall Series Winner for 2024.

The Automotive Plastic Welding Kit was awarded to TYLER WEST

“MSC Challenge has always been a great event to be a part of. The skillset of each driver improves every year, along with the positivity and support they bring to the track. It’s always a great challenge competing on the various track layouts, providing great opportunity for every driver to get door to door and put on a show. Extremely grateful for all my sponsors, friends and family, who help provide me with the tools and support I need both on and off the track.
Will we get to Japan to use our license…that’s a good question ”  said Tyler West.

At 16 years of age l am so honored to have competed and won the MSC Challenge in 2023 and now 2024, with that securing a FDJ2 Licence which is ready to go when the opportunity arises. I was lucky enough to learn to Drift at the Drift Academy, being tutored by Sky Zhao, which set me up with a solid base to continue to excel in Drifting. The other drivers I have battled against have become great friends and mentors to me, it’s the support they show each other that makes Drifting such a great sport.

Motorsport is a sport that takes mental clarity, planning and endurance, a strong fit body and mind that can cope with the stress of a high pressure environment. As I grow and aim higher I am learning there is so much that goes on behind the scenes but the challenge is something I strive for. Travelling to Japan was an eye opener for me to show what I can achieve internationally if I continue to work hard for my dreams of having Motorsport as a future career on the International stage.

I am looking forward to competing in D1NZ in 2025 as my next challenge that will help to grow my racing experience.

I couldn’t be where I am without the support of my family, team and sponsors who have helped pave my way to success at such an early age

MSC Challenge 2024 Driver Profiles:

Compiled by MSC Commentator Warren Sare

  1. Corbyn Wilson Wilson Motorsport- This kid is the goods, he really is. It wouldn’t surprise me to see another young National Series champ and this ex Mini Stock racer has the right tools and the right crew around him to go as far as he wants. The defending champ and the benchmark all year. Now has enough tool prizes to start a workshop
  2. Tyler West TeeDub Drift- TDiddy is a bit of a veteran of MSC now, ex series champ and he seems to respond well when challenged and driving a bit more on emotion. Said he was going to win the last round and did. Told me he now has a bbq smoker so is adapting to dadlife well
  3. Jason Wu – The WuRo-fighter feels to me like the gatekeeper of Meremere Drift Park, he knows every inch of it and his qualifying is on. Seems like he’s dialled the aggression back 1-2% , is comfortable in his car and drives with a plan. Unexpected top 16 loss had a big imapct but now has his FD license. Almost smiled.
  4. Ryan Murdoch Syko Motorsport – Deserved unofficial most improved winner. Struggled in past only to this year post 3 x top 4 results and a real livestream land favourite with low power and a never give up attitude
  5. Isaac Aldridge – I always refer to him as a battle specialist, and after grabbing number Q1 at the final round with some new found speed I think he know what to work on to move up the table
  6. Aaron Habib The BMW is just too much car for MMDP but when its on its a sight to behold and Aarons round 4 will be a case of what might have been. He’ll be back like that guy who hits a 300m drive only to 4 putt.
  7. Shayne King always a strong qualifier but seems to run into the top of the table guys, first round podium result was well deserved and another who it feels like we are just waiting on that break through win from
  8. Blair Gillman ‘Blahu’ jumped up the table of another P3R4, and even he said he wondered why it took him so long to get dialled in. Will win an event
  9. Trent Abina does things he shouldn’t be able to do in an underpower car and this years ‘mosquito’ , absolute pest in a good way
  10. Leo Li – didn’t get fired for beating his boss . Got more and more aggressive. Not bad for 3m in the drivers seat
  11. Geovanni R Usure Kimitaunga – Rough debut round but dealt with it well . Best result being a top 8 isnt a bad start and has the right people around him to learn solid battlecraft
  12. Hayden Kanters– to quote Robbie Nishida- just needed to drive like he did in round 4 all the time.
  13. Michael Tang– Refer Jasons, about 5% less aggression and he will progress up the table.
  14. Jayden Pesticcio – “the Nut” bought a bit of a knife to a gun fight but was solid in comp debut. Always good to see guys you normally see crewing out racing, even if they do drive from the back seat.
  15. David Chen– Just wild… never really sure whats going to happen when hes behind the wheel.
  16. Yun Liu – would have been better if I didnt talk. Embodies the spirit of MSC by getting better each lap and by doing her best run last qualifier. ‘Yunicorn’ is retired, the 14 is coming back with a new look
